Settlement Support can help
It's not always easy to find the information you need about employment,
education, health services and many other aspects of living in New Zealand.
The biggest challenge is knowing where to find this information.
Settlement Support can help you access all information you'll need to
know when settling in Waitakere. This is a free service available to all
newcomers.
Ayumi Shibata, your Settlement Support Coordinator for West Auckland
welcomes you to drop in and see her at the Settlement Support office:
- Room 1, Waitakere Community Resource Centre,
8 Ratanui Street, Henderson (opposite Unitec & the Library)
9.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Thursday
Sometimes the Coordinator is required to go out for other engagements

You can also visit
Citizens Advice Bureau, asking for the Settlement Support
service.

Free Workshops in your interests
As a Newcomer, you would have plenty of questions about living in the
West of the Auckland Region.
The Settlement Support Coordinator can facilitate a range of free workshops
(education, employment, parenting etc) to help you to get the appropriate
guidance and information to shorten and smooth your journey through the
confusing new period. Workshops are held locally.

ARMS Free Job Search Workshop (West Auckland)
You will:
- Learn about New Zealand employment culture and labour market
- Learn how to write a Kiwi style CV and receive tips on interview
skills
- Learn about job search and workplace language skills
- Get follow-up individualised employment planning and support
- Get career guidance and mentoring
- Get to make appointments with other employment support agencies
on-site.
- Learn about other programmes and workshops that will support
your job search.
Requirements
Please bring copy of your passport showing your personal details and
current immigration status.
When: 22nd Sept, 7th Oct, 11th Nov, 15th Dec 2011, 21st Feb,
20th March, 17th April, 15th May 2012
Time: 9.30am- 2.30pm
Lunch: Tea & coffee provided.

New Out West
New Out West is a network of government and non-government agencies and
community groups concerned with migrant and refugee issues.
They meet monthly to share information and jointly focus on planning
for local settlement needs.

Newkiwis
The
Auckland Chamber of Commerce is committed to facilitating paid employment
for migrants and refugees.
www.newkiwis.co.nz
is a nation-wide website free to employers and all migrants who are resident
in NZ and eligible to work here. Employers (including recruitment companies)
post vacancies and/or search the database for the skilled staff they require.
Candidates register their CVs and employers will contact the candidate directly
or via us.
New Kiwis staff delivers presentations on job search skills and offer one-to-one
job search advice. The New Kiwis programme is a partnership project between
the Auckland
Chamber of Commerce and the
Department of Labour.

Waitakere Ethnic Board Inc

Bringing Cultures Together
Waitakere Ethnic Board (WEB) is the organization that recognizes that
there are different needs and interests amongst the various ethnicities
in the increasingly culturally diverse Waitakere ward within the
Auckland region. WEB sees the importance in an advocacy role it plays
under the Community Partnering Agreement (CPA) partner with the former
Waitakere City Council (WCC) and now with the new
Auckland Council.
If you or your organisation represent an ethnic community group and
you're based in the Waitakere Ranges, Whau or Henderson-Massey wards,
then you are encouraged to join WEB.

Your chance to make a world of difference!
Refugee Support Volunteers:
- Provide practical support for refugees' initial six months here
- Help out people who have left everything behind
- Learn about new cultures and explain about life in New Zealand
Register now!! RMS Refugee Resettlement is a non-profit,
non-governmental organisation. Our NZQA-accredited 20-hour volunteer training
program equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to give practical
support to refugee families.
