Draft Waitakere City Freight Plan
Submissions closed 5pm 20 November 2009
Background
The community was invited to provide feedback on the Draft Waitakere City Freight
Plan from 9 October until 20 November 2009. The Draft Plan outlines methods of
freight management and movement around and through Waitakere including
identifying general freight routes and routes for oversized and overweight
freight vehicles. Its primary focus is on road freight movement as this is the
main method of transport for freight in Waitakere.
The Draft Plan addresses a range of issues including freight modes,
identification of indicative freight routes with specific reference to those
routes between Henderson and SH16, through New Lynn and in new growth areas. It
has a 30 year outlook and reinforces a large amount of existing council
direction however, in some areas a new direction is required to better integrate
freight movement with the council's land use goals and ensure ongoing road user
and pedestrian safety.
The proposed changes should be read as a statement of intent pending the planned
change of governance to a single Auckland Council structure.
