Control of illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles and litter
The Solid Waste Business Unit works to prevent illegal dumping. Waste Minimisation Officers are empowered to investigate dumped rubbish and
issue litter infringement notices under the Litter Act or take prosecution actions against the offenders where applicable.
The prime function of the Waste Minimisation Officers is
promoting waste minimisation. They spend time
educating and advising members of the public in ways of
reducing waste generated by households.
The Waste Minimisation Officers also check, illegal dumping incidents,
abandoned vehicles, dog-struck or torn rubbish bags, spillages etc.
The combined effect of strict regulatory measures and education /promotion
reduces illegal dumping activities in the city.
