Walks Out West

Take some time out and venture to one of our featured walks from the vast open space and panoramas of Harbourview to the invigorating weather and spectacular views of the West Coast. Take a friend or your kids, and go out there and enjoy a bush walk, explore the historic Henderson Creek trail, or follow one of several coastal or streamside walks.

There is a short 15-minute walk connecting Ceramco Park, Glen Eden, with Kaurilands Domain via the recently planted streamside track.

Lake Panorama

For the avid stroller to those looking for a relaxing afternoon, Xena Park, located in Henderson, offers rolling pathways and scenic vistas complete with flowering lilies and vibrant bird life.

One of the newer walks it, a leisurely walk around Xena Park will clear the mind and offer a moments peace from busy day to day living.

Parrs Park

A favourite park for active people, Parrs Park offers great opportunities for walking out west.

For the keen walker all you need to do is follow the gravel track that takes you through the Macrocarpa shelter belt, a meadow with the possibility of a meeting with grazing horses, and over the Waikumete Stream.

Double back or continue around Saymour road to complete the loop. For the Sunday afternoon stroller in everybody, Parrs Park offers a open, gentle path around the main fields and has been designated as a Kiwiwalk, making it suitable for all ages and abilities.

Te Atatu Peninsula

You'll be able to walk around the entire peninsula when completed, however, sections you can do now are: The 20 minute Harbourview Reserve walk  has stunning views across a wetland and the Waitemata Harbour.

Spinnaker & Kelvin Strand walk (photo) takes 10 minutes and follows a coastal wetland and a sandy beach to view West Harbour Marina. Chapman Strand follows a seawall to the Te Atatu Boat Club.

A 20-minute loop walk around Taipari Strand, has views of mangroves and coastal bush. Gloria Park provides access to a short bush walk in Springbank Esplanade.

How to get there

From West Coast Road, Parrs Cross Road or Benita Place, Glen Eden.
