Explore a beach or two

Have you experienced a "wild" West Coast surf beach yet, or one of the gentler inner harbour beaches, safer for swimming, kayaking and other water sports? All our beaches offer a range of experiences, from simply soaking up the sun and views, to more active boating, fishing, surfing and coastal bush walks.

Coastal parks: Places to visitPark seat view

Waitakere City's beaches are situated all around us, with the Waitemata Harbour to the east and the Manukau Harbour and Tasman Sea to the west.

The sea can be dangerous so always swim between the flags, know your limits and watch the weather.

The wonderful coastal wildlife, includes numerous species of birds, so please keep dogs under control. There are also penguins, seals, and even dolphins. Apart from fishing for fin fish, it is not acceptable to take any marine life from Waitakere beaches or coastal reserves.
