Make a Manga Competition - Two PSPs up for grabs!
Waitakere Library and Information Services are looking for a
manga or comic for our Make a Manga competition.
We have a PSP to be won for each of the two winning plus
some great prizes from comic shop Heroes 4 Sale. The winning entries
will also be on display in the Waitakere Central Library as well as
featured on the Waitakere Library and Information Services website.
That way, everyone gets to see your brilliance.

We are looking for the most creative and interesting story you
can tell in comic form, not necessarily whether your manga or comic
has the prettiest art.
Also, your manga or comic can be any genre, any style, and can be
colour or black and white. However, it will need to include a few
phrases listed below under mandatory inclusions.

There are a few things we need you to include in your manga or
comic:
- "Waitakere" needs to feature in your manga or comic, either as the
setting or a word in the story.
Also, one or more of the following phrases:
- "Get to the library - QUICK!"
- "Should we check the Internet?"
- "OUCH! Paper cut!"

- Competition judges and Waitakere Libraries and Information
Services employees or family members of employees and judges,
are ineligible to win the major prize.
- The manga or comic produced needs to be between 4 and 16
pages long with each page no larger than the size of an A4 piece
of paper.
- It can be hand drawn, computer generated or made from
photographs.
- It can be black and white or colour but it needs to be clear
and distinct enough to be reproduced. This means no HB pencil
work unless you press really hard!
- Only original characters can be used so that means NO
copyrighted characters such as Batman, Superman, Naruto or
Spiderman can be used.
- You can enter both Make a Manga and Create a Character
competitions.
- Characters entered in Create a Character are permitted to be
used in Make a Manga.
- There are two competition age groups: 11-14 and 15-18 years.
The winning entries will be featured on the Waitakere Library
and Information Services website.
- Winners will be notified by phone or email.
- By submitting a manga or comic, you agree that it can be
reproduced for publicity purposes by Waitakere City Council
and/or Waitakere Library and Information Services.
- Offensive language and/or images will immediately disqualify
the entry.
- Closing date for entries is Monday 2 August 2010.
- Winners announced on during Library Week (16-22
August 2010).
- Any queries can be addressed to:
kidz@waitakere.govt.nz
