Job Hunters' Club

Visit the Learning Centres and get help finding a job.  No membership is required but an appointment is necessary.

The centres can help you to:

• Look for jobs online including the New Zealand Herald online
• Find books on how to write CVs
• Write and print out your CV
• Get your CV proofread
• Set up an email address to contact employers

To write a CV you should bring with you any qualifications' details you have (eg dates, grades) & previous employment details.

Use of the computers is free of charge. *Printing is 20c per page - Floppy disc $1 each, CD-R $2 each.

1. Sites advertising vacancies in New Zealand

• Seek - a huge site well used by employers
• Winz - job vacancies listed through Work and Income New Zealand.
• Government Jobs - a site which lists vacancies in government departments
• Netcheck – a site which lists a wide range of vacancies
• Job Zone - a new site but worth checking out as employers can place ads for free
• Mahi - a site with mäori-focused employment opportunities
• New Kiwis - a site with job opportunities for new immigrants
• Seasonal Work - a site advertising seasonal jobs, fruit picking etc
• Job Stuff - student job search
• Waitakere City Council - the council offers a range of positions and links to job hunting sites.

• www.kiwicareers.govt.nz provides information about different types of jobs and training, especially useful if you are a recent migrant. It also has a good collection of links to other websites.

• www.tntmagazine.com/uk a site for working holiday makers in the UK
• www.monster.com a large international site based in the US
• www.jobs.com jobs in the US
• www.mycareer.com.au jobs in Australia

3. Sites with useful advice

• www.kiwicareers.govt.nz provides information about different types of jobs and training. It also has a good collection of links to other websites
• www.ers.govt.nz is the official New Zealand government site that provides information related to employment and employment law. It offers a plain language explanation of the Employment Relations Act 2000, as well as helping you create and understand employment agreements.
• www.cab.org.nz offers a wide range of employment related advice and links.
• www.youthlaw.co.nz gives you information related to youth employment and related topics.
• www.workbridge.co.nz provides support and links about employment issues for people with disabilities.
• www.goodfaith.org.nz uses interactive cartoons to introduce concepts of good faith to the user.
• www.careers.govt.nz is the web site of Career Services, a crown entity that provides career information, advice and guidance.
• www.hrc.co.nz The Human Rights Commission is a statutory body that administers the Human Rights Act 1993. This site offers advice and links related to human rights and obligations in employment, as well as offering advice associated to issues of discrimination.
