Create a Character Competition - TWO iPod Nanos up for grabs!
So you're ready to take up our challenge of creating your own
character? Awesome!
We have TWO Ipod Nanos to be won, one for the winner of each age
category, plus some hot prizes from comic shop Heroes for Sale.
The
winning entries will be on display in the Waitakere Central Library
as well as being featured on the Waitakere Library and Information
Services website so everyone gets to see your brilliance.

We are looking for the most creative and original character that
you can create. You can use existing characters as inspiration but
the finished character HAS to be utterly original and make us go:
"Yep, I want to see that guy in a comic!" You character design needs
to be clear enough that another artist could come along and draw it.

To be in to win, we want you to create a 'poster', 'profile' and the
newly introduced 'character design', of the coolest character
possible.
You can create a superhero, a villian, or even someone a bit more
mysterious. Was your character around 200 years ago? They could be
human, alien or anything else you can dream up. Just make it
awesome!

It's up to you to choose how they are presented. They could be
heriocally posing in the middle of battle, or just brushing their
teeth. Black and white, colour, whatever, it's your choice.
The name of the character should appear somewhere on the poster. You
could put it as a title, or somewhere on your character as a logo or
crest. Maybe you could do both?

Who your character is and where they are from is completely in your
hands. You can shape them any way you want. Some ideas to get you
started...
- Why is your character special? (Are they exceptionally skilled?
Maybe they have super powers?)
- What are your character's origins? (Where was Superman from?)
- What their goals are - what do they want to achieve? (Lex Luther
wanted to destroy Superman, and Naruto wanted to be the Hokage.)
- Have they had any grand adventures or tragic events? (Frodo and
Sam from The Lord of the Rings went on a mission to destroy an evil,
magical ring. These characters had a great adventure. Harry Potter
tragically lost his parents when he was a baby.)
- What is their favourite quote? (To infinity and beyond!)

You have to complete both a poster of your character AND their
profile, otherwise we won't know why your character is cool. Make
sure you have included:
- "Waitakere" has to appear somewhere, either in the profile or on the
poster. If you're feeling the creative juices, you could include
"Waitakere" in both!
- Title or logo of the character on the poster.
- Your name on the character design and the profile and on the
back of the poster so we know who created your masterpiece!
Please attach your Entry Fom to your entry.

- Competition judges and Waitakere Libraries and Information
Services employees or family members of employees and judges,
are ineligible to win the major prize.
- Poster to be done on A4 to A3 paper or card.
- Character will not be accepted unless it is submitted with a
character design, profile, and poster.
- Your character can be hand drawn, computer generated or made from
photographs.
- It can be black and white, colour or both, but needs to be clear
and distinct enough to be reproduced. This means no HB pencil work
unless you press really hard!
- Only original characters can be used. That means NO copyrighted
characters such as Batman, Superman, Naruto or Spiderman.
- You can enter multiple times and enter both Make a Manga and
Create a Character competitions. Characters entered in Create a
Character are also permitted to be used in Make a Manga. In
fact, that would be really cool to see!
- There are two competition age groups: 11-14 and 15-18 years. The
winning entries will be featured on the Waitakere Library and
Information Services website with the possibility of being shown in
the Waitakere Library Branches.

be reproduced for publicity purposes by Waitakere City Council and
