Animal Control
Keeping
Cats
The Council does not
legally have any control over the number of cats that may be kept or the noise that
free, wandering cats make.
However, should any health nuisance occur in relation to cats contact
us for assistance.
Animal Welfare Services will respond to complaints regarding the welfare or ill treatment of any cats.
Contact us for more
information.
Keeping Stock
You are not permitted to keep stock (cattle, deer,
horses, sheep, goats, pigs etc.) in urban areas without the
Council's consent. Stables must not be closer than 2
metres to a property boundary and must be at least 10 metres
away from any buildings.
Goats must be tethered, have shelter and access to water.
Contact us if you
wish to apply to keep stock, report lost stock or if you
wish to complain about someone keeping stock.
Keeping Bees
You are not allowed to keep bees if the activity is likely to become a nuisance or annoyance to any person or dangerous or injurious to health.
Contact us to discuss whether you are able to keep bees or for further information.

Dead Animals on Private Property
The Council does not remove dead animals from private
property. If the dead animal is small, wrap it in
newspaper, seal in a plastic bag and put out with normal
rubbish collection.
You can bury your own dead animals on your property if
you choose to. Please ensure the animal is buried deep
enough so that other animals do not dig it up.
Contact us if the dead
animal is on a neighbour's property, or on Council property.
