Going West Books & Literary Weekend 2007
2007 Going West Festival
Literary Weekend - Food for Thought
The Going West Books & Writers Weekend takes place every
year in mid-September and focuses on New Zealand and Pacific
writers - past and present, established and emerging.
Food for Thought - the 2007 Going West Festival literary
weekend - was another literary feast, apt indeed given this
year's theme. The menu was wide-ranging and varied including
readings, discussion, conversation and performance.
Titirangi Tatler described the programme as "a fine balance
between the light and the substantial, the sweet and the
savoury, the spicy and the mild".
Graham Beattie commented, after his session with Owen
Marshall, that what he loves most about Going West "is that
there are no competing events, all the action happens in one
spot, everyone eats together like a family and then goes
back to the full immersion experience," (quoted on Leaf
Salon).

Thanks to everyone who attended and made 2007 such an
edifying and memorable weekend - one not to be missed on the
NZ literary calendar. And to the Blerta crew, who played
together again for the first time in years, an extra special
thanks for ending the festival on such a high note.
