 | Waitakere Diwali Festival 2009 | | | Event Type: Festivals/Parades | | | |
 | 04 Oct 2009 | | | 11:00 a.m. | | | | | Diwali is a festival of lights where we celebrate the victory of life over death, good over evil and light over darkness.
The afternoon’s event will be full of music, cultural items and merry making in the style of Bollywood and contemporary times.
The evening programme commencing after 6.00pm will be more solemn Diwali pooja theme and cultural items depicting the message of Diwali.
There will also be lazer lights and fireworks display towards the later part of the program.
During the event, you will find mouth watering food items and sweets, craft stalls, information booths, kids amusements and many more.
This festival is intended to attract the wider Kiwi communities to participate in the event. In the last three years we have seen some 20,000 people attend the event annually. Celebrating Diwali (A Festival of Lights) in our
diversely cultural City is seen as a way to continue building better relations with the community. While New Zealanders of varied cultural background and ethnicity lived and worked together, there was little opportunity for
them to witness and understand each other’s culture and heritage. Events such as this play an important part in bringing disparate people together, a process that is so necessary in today’s world.
