The Waitakere Pacifica Living Arts Festival is an annual event celebrating Pacific culture. The festival is a unique way for both young and old to immerse themselves in all things Pacific, featuring arts and crafts, traditional food and performances by over 30 school multicultural groups. An opportunity for schools to sample our Pacifica Experience workshops, a hands on approach to teaching students about Pacific arts. With Tutelage from the 'Pacifica Mamas and Papas' - the authentic source of Pacific knowledge - students learn the history and origins of Pacific arts, with the opportunity to create their own works. The workshops are designed specifically for the festival, offering schools the chance to sample what our full programme can offer.
Music, Drums and Dance - having fund dancing and learning basic Pacific drum rhythms.
Tivaevae Creations - Creating designs that connects to the history and traditions of Cook Islands Tivaevae.
Flax Weaving - Learn the basic of weaving and cultural values of Flax (Harakeke) from local master weavers.
Creating Pare Ei (head lei) - learning the history and uses of head lei around the Pacific and learning how to utilise colourful recycled materials for a modern look
Pacific Style Lunch will be available and a variety of Arts and craft from around the pacific will be on display.
Te Kawerau a Maki our local Iwi will host the last activity on Saturday, 14th November with an open market atmosphere showcasing the best of Aotearoa
