 | 22 Apr 2009 | | | 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. | | | | | Waitakere City Council is hosting a national forum looking at ways local government can help prevent family violence.
Hosted by Mayor Bob Harvey, co-chair of the Waitakere Mayoral Taskforce against Family Violence, and Deputy Mayor Penny Hulse the one-day event is open to mayors, councillors, council staff and key local partners leading or developing family violence prevention initiatives in their city or region.
The day will include sessions on effective practice, resourcing family violence prevention activities, developing a community action plan and an update on the “It’s not OK” campaign. It will also provide a chance to highlight the work we are already doing at local government level, share ideas, and develop new partnerships.
The ultimate goal is for local government, central government and community agencies to build sustainable partnerships and networks across New Zealand to better ensure all families and whänau have healthy, respectful, stable relationships, free from violence.
This forum is an important opportunity and we look forward to seeing you there.
