Introduction

Cleaner Production aims to promote the efficient use of resources (energy, water, materials) to increase business profitability and to create a more sustainable community for Waitakere City.

Businesses and consumers are increasingly confronted with having to rethink how they impact on the environment through product purchasing and packaging, recycling and waste disposal, unsustainably harvested resources, energy and water consumption, and transportation.

Cleaner Production offers practical assistance to businesses and individuals (as consumers) who would like to re-examine how they use resources, develop ‘greener’ purchasing practices, or would like to redirect ‘unwanted resources’ rather than create waste.

Waste Minimisation and Recycling Plans

The plan is a working template which will enable a business or event organiser to create a 'snapshot' of their solid waste categories (reduced, reused, recycled, hazardous or general waste) the quantities of each, costs, source and responsibilities on and offsite (contractor or service provider).

The idea is to look where there may be opportunities to improve practices and reduce amounts going direct to landfill with the added payoff of environment and expenses saved.
