Waitakere Central
Work is well underway to bring together the Waitakere Central project; a
major boost to the life and heart of the city in the Henderson central business
district.
The construction of the new Civic Centre, a rail and bus interchange and new
library are the first major building projects in Henderson for more than 20
years.

Waitakere Central Civic Centre will be the
home for Waitakere City Council
from July 2006 and is being constructed on the former Carter Holt Harvey site at 6
Henderson Valley Road.
The new building will improve the way Council serves the public with larger
dedicated customer service counters for visitors. A drive by facility is also
planned for the facility when it opens in August 2006.
The site is strategically located next to the
new-look
rail and bus interchange – all within a few minutes walk from the shopping,
business, arts and cultural centres of the city.
It is an investment in Waitakere business, community and cultural heart.
It is part of a commitment to developing the city centre and is designed to
add to the climate of confidence that is already encouraging other organisations
to expand and invest here and this investment will multiply in value many times
as it brings new jobs and new talent.
It will be the catalyst for redevelopment and new investment north of the
rail tracks and it will link the retail and commercial districts, the
double-track rail, the Council building and the
Corban Estate Arts Centre
into a single compact centre where all the main elements add value to one
another.
Building Sustainably
The new “hub” development in Henderson will be another example of sensible
sustainable design.
As part of its Eco City vision, the Council’s
intention is to create an international best practice model of sustainable
development. The project will incorporate demonstration and education projects
to help people visualise a more environmentally sustainable future.
