Becoming a Digital City
The Waitakere Information Access
Project is a key strategic document involving inputs from
asset management, library services, and the information
management departments. It is aimed at improving the city's
Information Communication Technology (ICT) by improving the
availability of ICT infrastructure in the City, access to
that infrastructure, and ensuring that all citizens have the
skills to use this infrastructure to access online content
and services.
This project is guided by Council's
Waitakere Information Access Framework Strategy.

Waitakere Information Access Strategy (Size 359K)
The goal of the Strategy is:
Waitakere will become a city where communications
infrastructure is available, access to computers and the
internet is without barriers, and all citizens are able to
obtain meaningful online content; all of which is necessary
to support the Council's goals and priorities for developing
a City that is technologically advanced in the information
age.
The scope of this programme mirrors the objectives of the
Governments
Digital Strategy
2.0.
The project outputs are as follows:

Confidence - Trusting digital networks and
infrastructure
Secure and trusted digital networks and universal
understanding of online safety, security and privacy
issues.
Capability - Skills to participate fully in this
digital world
The digital skills of our population create a
competitive advantage for New Zealand. This is
being delivered through the Waitakere learning centre
model
Learn IT Online
Connection - Infrastructure of Broadband
Widespread, affordable, fast broadband and access to
content across multiple platforms using multiple
devices.
Content - Application and services used on the web
Unlock the creative potential of New Zealand content,
both digital and non-digital
Waitakere Online
A key output of this programme has been the development
of the Waitakere Online Portal and Councils hosting service
for local business and community and sports groups with
www.ourwaitakere.co.nz and
www.waitakereonline.co.nz
These websites have been developed to become the homepage
of choice for all residents, businesses and visitors to
Waitakere City. Our Waitakere and Waitakere Online are
managed by an editorial board comprising of council
officers, representatives from business and community
networks, and includes an elected member representative.
