Waitakere City Vehicle Testing Station
The Testing Station operates from a purpose built four lane testing facility
on the corner of Moselle Ave and Waipareira Ave, in Henderson. It was
established in 1980, so has served the West for 23 years, with profits going
back into the community. The Testing Station provides a thorough impartial
inspection and that is what we do best - we don't do repairs so we are not
looking for work!

Equipment
We have recently upgraded our equipment, by installing two new electronic roller brake machines, replacing
two of the original hydraulic machines. The new machines have many new features, and are of course up to the minute technology. They measure brake balance, which is vital in the event of
emergency braking - you need to be sure that your vehicle is not going to veer onto the opposite side of the road and into the path of oncoming traffic. The brake balance check is an integral part of the brake check, and done on the roller brake testing machines. These machines accurately test the brakes on 4 wheel drive vehicles. The roller brake testing machines are calibrated annually to ensure accuracy.
The Hella beamsetter machines allow us to determine whether your lights are aimed at the right angle. If they are too high, they are likely to blind drivers of oncoming traffic - too low and your visibility at night is impaired. As part of our service, we will endeavour to adjust your headlights if we can on the spot, at no extra charge.

Information for customers
- Waitakere City Testing station is authorised by the Land Transport Safety Authority
(LTSA) to issue warrant of
fitness
All authorised Vehicle Inspection Centres of which we are one, are required to follow guidelines set by the LTSA and supported by legislation.
- The warrant of fitness inspection is an external, visual examination of the vehicle, and is generally limited to the items listed on the front of the check sheet.
- Without an invasive examination of the vehicle, the structural integrity of the vehicle cannot always be verified.
- Waitakere City Testing Station cannot therefore accept responsibility for defective items not identified during the warrant of fitness inspection procedure, where those items are outside the LTSA guidelines, or could not be reasonably discovered by an external visual examination.
- It is the owners responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is maintained to a warrantable standard at all times, whether the vehicle has a current warrant of fitness or not.
Vehicle Emissions Testing
Experts estimate that in the Auckland region alone, more people die from air pollution caused by vehicles than are killed in car accidents. High emissions can also be an indication that your vehicle is not running properly and as a result you may be wasting petrol. For these reasons Waitakere City Council provides free emissions testing with your
WoF so that you can ensure that your vehicle operates properly, and do your part to reduce pollution.
We conduct emissions tests using European Union (EU) standards. The test produces results for carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. We also test for
CO2 and O2, which provide important clues to the efficiency of your car.
If your test result indicates that your engine is not running as efficiently as it could, we will recommend that you have your car assessed by a mechanic. If you select one of the professionals listed on our flyer, who are committed to the emissions testing program and the reduction of air pollution, they will offer you 10% discount on a tune up.
