Change of ownership of a property
To update information on a rate account from a property sale, the Council must receive legal documentation. For example a Notice of Sale from a solicitor or a copy of the Certificate of Title showing the transaction would be needed.
Any notice of change of ownership must be received within one month of the property transaction (as per Section 106 of the Rating Powers Act).
Change of name on a property
To update information on a rate account due to a death of a spouse, marriage, name changed by deed pole, you must write to the Council, enclosing the relevant legal documentation. In cases of a deceased spouse, legal documentation can take some time to get to the Council. The Council's Land Rates Department can make a temporary adjustment to ensure the deceased partner is not included on future rate accounts.
Contact us to make the temporary adjustment for you.
If you would like to change an incorrect spelling or any other minor corrections on your rates details
