Sports Field Repairs
Why do we repair sports fields?
Sports fields deteriorate due to wear and tear during sporting seasons. Your
council repairs sports fields in spring and autumn, so that our fields are ready
for another busy sporting season. It's very important, for the quality of the
playing surfaces in subsequent years, that these renovations are successful.
When do we repair fields?
Between 1 September and labour weekend each spring; and again
at the end of March and mid April in autumn. This happens every year. Most
sports fields are closed for play during these times, and signs advising of this
are placed on or around closed fields.
What works are carried out?
Generally sports fields will need physical works to aerate the soil, so the
grass (turf) can grow strong and healthy. There is usually re-soiling to repair
holes, and re-levelling of playing surfaces. Under-sowing new grass is an
important part of the renovation process and it's essential that the tender
young shoots of the new grass are protected from damage during the early weeks
of their life. Often a field just requires a rest period.
How much does it cost?
Your council spends thousands of dollars repairing sports fields every year. A
lot of good work can be undone by people using the sports fields during the
repair time. Please help us by keeping off the playing surfaces during the time
they are closed for repairs.

Pre-season training and end of season catch up games must be booked through

in providing.
