Henderson Creek
Follow
the path and reflect on history. Henderson Creek
was once a hive of activity for traders, vintners,
farmers, orchardists and families. Now it's
quiet - a place for recreation and reflection. Historic highlights along the way include
the arch, in Swan Arch
Park, was built by the recluse, Henry Swan in 1909. Further upstream is the Tui Glen Motor Camp - which is New Zealand’s earliest motor
camp, and remains of dams and mills, a legacy of
Henderson's timber milling industry.
Check out
the international Walkway of Trees sourced from all
over the world and the stunning Japanese gardens
created as a gift by Waitakere's sister city of
Kakogawa. To cool off after your walk take a dip
at the Aquatic Centre or enjoy the view of the
Henderson Creek from the historic Falls Hotel
Cafe. Just behind the hotel is the band rotunda
- focus of the annual jazz festival and the city's new
artist-designed bridge, referred to as McLeod's
crossing.
Henderson Creek is also a good spot to safely test
your kayaking skills with ducks as witness.
