Council owned public car parks are swept fortnightly and litter removed at least three times per week.
Street litter
Litter is removed from all major commercial centres (apart from privately owned shopping centres and bus terminals) on a daily basis and minor commercial centres at least six times a week.
Litter on railway platform
It is not Council's responsibility to remove litter from railway platforms. Tranzrail has arranged to have the litter collected daily.
Tranzrail introduced a policy (in July 2000) to remove
litter bins from its platforms as they were getting graffitied too often. They advise that they have contractors who clear litter from the platforms daily.
