Access and Special Needs Services
Waitakere Libraries have an Access Services Librarian who assists people with
special needs. The Access Librarian also visits private homes and rest
homes with a selection of reading materials.
Housebound Service
This service assists people of all ages who are confined to their homes through illness, medical condition or age. It is available to anyone who
on their own, or through a family member, is unable to access a library.
A profile is gathered of clients' reading preferences and materials are
chosen for them and delivered on a regular basis.
Rest homes
Our Access Librarian makes regular visits to residents of rest
homes in our area. She can select materials for individuals or bring a
collection for residents to make their own choices.
Audio books
Popular books published on cassette tape and CD's
Large - Print Books
Popular authors published in large - print editions for easier reading.
Magnifying glasses or sheets
Available for use in the libraries. Please ask a staff member to provide one
for you.
Sighted guide
A staff member in each library has been trained to appreciate issues facing
blind or sight impaired borrowers in Libraries.
Fax machines
Available for the deaf to contact the libraries for assistance with reading materials, locating information and other library related activities.
