Interloans
What is an interloan?
Interloan is resource sharing between libraries. Items not owned by
Waitakere
Libraries may be requested from another library. We also supply items to other
libraries who request our material.

Who may use this service?
The interloan service is available to most members of Waitakere Libraries.
Youth members should discuss with their parent or guardian, as charges do apply.
If you are not yet a member, join now!

What can be interloaned?
This service is not limited to books. It may be possible to obtain newspaper
or magazine articles, microfilm, theses, music scores, research papers,
industrial standards, reports, and more. In some circumstances videos, DVDs,
audio books and CDs may also be available.
If you are a registered member of Waitakere Library you can
browse the Collections of New Zealand Libraries.
Some items you will be able to retain (e.g. copies of newspaper or journal
articles), some you will be able to borrow (e.g. most books, scores and CDs),
and some must be used only in the library (e.g. theses, microfilm, fragile or
rare items). The lending library determines conditions of loan.
We may decide to purchase recently published material for the library instead
of obtaining it via interloan.

What if the item is not available in New Zealand?
It may be possible to obtain some material from overseas. Costs and delivery
times vary.

How long will my interloan take?
This does vary; the item may not be immediately available at other libraries, or
we may need to approach more than one library.
Most items arrive within two to four weeks.
For urgent requests or to ask about
the progress of a request, contact The Interloan Librarian.

Is there a charge for the service?
Service fees will be loaded on to your library account when the item arrives in
the library. These must be paid whether or not the material is collected.
Further charges related to urgent or international requests are added to your
account as invoices are received.

How do I pay?
Charges should be paid when the requested item is collected. All our libraries
accept payment by cash or cheque. Please check with your local library to see if
they accept EFTPOS. Please be aware that charges over $10 owing on your library
record will affect your ability to borrow, reserve and renew.

What happens once my item arrives?
Library staff will contact you when the library receives the item. Applicable
charges are added to your library record.
Material you can keep
Material is collected from your library.
Material you can borrow
Material will be issued on to your library record.
The lending library determines the issue period and any applicable use
restrictions. All material is subject to recall by the owning institution at any
time. Interloans returned past the due date incur daily overdue charges.
Renewals may be available on request; contact
library staff for more information.
Interloans must be returned to a Waitakere Library with all accompanying
jackets, forms or papers. Charges will be applied for lost or damaged materials.
Material you must only use in the library
Some items are supplied only on the condition that they are used in the library.
This typically applies to theses, microfilm, microfiche, research papers etc.

How do I submit an interloan request?

Catalogue. If we do not have the item
