The liquor ban is imposed by the Control of Liquor in
Public Places Bylaw 2003 and applies from 5 pm until 5 am the
following morning during the periods listed below:
Labour Weekend - Friday to Monday
Guy Fawkes - 5 November (and any immediately
preceding or following weekend)
Christmas / New Year Period - 23 December 2005
- 8 January 2006
Auckland Anniversary Weekend - Friday to Monday
Waitangi Day - 5 February and 6 February (and
any immediately preceding or following weekend)
Easter Period - Thursday to Tuesday
Anzac Day - 24 April and 25 April (and any
immediately preceding or following weekend)
Queen's Birthday Weekend - Friday to Monday
Which areas does it apply to?
The ban applies to public places at all Piha beach and
foreshore areas and also adjacent car parks and roads, from
the northern to southern most ends of Piha beach and
foreshore and also including North Piha Rd and Marine Parade
North and South. It extends from Lion Rock in the West
to Piha Domain and the adjacent part of Seaview Rd in the
East. It includes:
North Piha Esplanade and North Piha carpark
North Piha Rd
Les Waygood Park
Piha Esplanade Reserve
North Piha Strand
Marine Parade North and South
Lion Rock
All parking areas directly adjoining the beach
including Piha South Road Reserve
The control of Liquor in Public Places Bylaw 2003 confers
upon Police the rights of search and seizure in section 169
and 170 of the Local Government Act 2002. Although
Council has imposed the Piha Liquor Ban, we are not
responsible for its enforcement. If you wish to report someone drinking within the
Piha Liquor Ban area during the period of the ban stated
