The concept of a dedicated youth facility was first
discussed in 2001 after the results of the "Waitakere City
Youth Leisure Needs and Wants Study" identify the need for
multi purpose youth facility in
Henderson.
It has taken seven years to develop but the city now has
it's first dedicated youth facility called the Global Cafe,
located in the old Henderson Library, 20 Alderman Drive.
Waitakere City Council is working together with the Zeal
Education Trust who have been contracted to manage the
Global Cafe on Council's behalf.
The Global Cafe is open for all Waitakere youth between
the ages of 13 and 25 and has a real focus on music, art and
performance. The Global Cafe offers local Waitakere youth
access to a state of the art performance area, sound and
recording studios, media room, art studio and a cafe for
youth to hang out.
Zeal Education Trust will run
workshops and offer opportunities for local youth to be
involved in all areas of music production and performance.
