Temporary Accommodation
(while building a permanent dwelling)
If you wish to live in temporary accommodation (i.e. a bach, caravan,
portacom etc.) without resource consent, while building a permanent dwelling, your temporary accommodation must meet the following District Plan definition of
'temporary activity':
....An activity associated with a 'building' or 'construction' project provided that the activity shall be carried out on the site no longer than the duration of the project or twelve months whichever comes
first....
Note: The words 'building' and 'construction'
stated above are also the subject of definition within the District Plan.
Only the relevant part of the temporary activities definition has been quoted. The full definition, together with definitions of
'building', 'construction' and 'site' can be found within the definitions section in volume one of the
District Plan.
If the proposed temporary accommodation involves the relocation or erection of a temporary building then you may require a
building consent and a resource consent will be required if the building is subject to any District Plan rules.
A condition may be imposed on the resource consent for the new permanent dwelling, that requires the removal of the temporary building at the end of the project or within twelve months whichever comes first.
