Animal Welfare

Waitakere City Council aims to serve the community in all aspects of animal welfare and control.  This is achieved by providing animal control and welfare services. This includes dog registration, operating an animals lost and found, a dog adoption service and much more. Animal Welfare Services is a business unit of Waitakere City Council.

What we do at Animal Welfare Waitakere?

Animal Welfare Waitakere provides a range of services, all directed at improving welfare standards of the animals in our community, educating the public in a better understanding of animal welfare and of-course finding good suitable homes for those animals less fortunate, abandoned, neglected and unwanted.

We also provide other services such as:

  • Adoptions of dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and sometimes even stock
  • Impounding and reuniting lost pets with their owners
  • Dog registration
  • Microchipping for just $20 per dog
  • Enforcement of local and national dog control and animal welfare laws
  • Animal Welfare Officers who are also Inspectors under the Animal Welfare Act
  • A holistic approach to animal welfare at the Animal Welfare Waitakere

Where is Animal Welfare Waitakere Situated?

Location

The Animal Welfare Centre is situated at 48 The Concourse, Henderson.  The Concourse is located adjacent to the Lincoln Road inter-change of the North Western motorway.

 

Animal Welfare Waitakere Hours

 

Day   Time
Monday to Friday Office hours 8.30 am - 4.30 pm
  Kennel viewing 10.30 am - 4.15 pm
Saturday   11 am to 2.00 pm
Sunday   11 am to 2.00 pm

Public holidays we are closed.
Note:  During the weekend the Centre is open for you to view animals for adoption, check for lost dogs, and pick up impounded dogs.  However it is recommended that you visit the shelter during the week if possible as it can get very busy during the weekend.

includes de-sexing,, first vaccination, worming and flea treatment
Dogs and puppies $220
includes de-sexing, first vaccination, registration and micro-chipping
Rabbits, stock, guinea pigs, birds, etc $15
property inspection applicable
