Henderson VineyardsBusiness Campus
Unlocking Potential
|
|
| Henderson Vineyards Business Campus is the name of Waitakere City Council's
vision for a special piece of land at the entrance to the city.
|
Introduction
Bounded by Lincoln Road, Central Park Drive and the North Western Motorway, it's a prime gateway location, where the remaining vineyards, orchards and existing businesses are poised for re-development.
The name reflects the area's winemaking history but also its future potential as
a high quality corporate environment - the home of clean, progressive industries
and modern businesses, that are innovative and high tech.
There's always been a creative spirit at work in this region - you could call it 'westie-zen'. It's a place ripe with opportunities to make a fresh start, to do things differently...
Henderson Vineyards is a chance to take in some of the Waitakere magic. It offers you the space to establish and grow a business, and to enjoy the benefits of being out west:
- a large pool of skilled labour with people wanting to work locally
- an exciting mix of development opportunities with vineyard land becoming
available and existing business sites ready for renewal.
- an improved roading network between Central Park Drive and Lincoln Road,
is releasing large land lots for development. Further road development
is planned for the future to complete the network.
- a to b - Lincoln Road is the major transport link between the North Western Motorway interchange and Henderson, the commercial heart of Waitakere City, with easy and convenient connections to North Shore City, Rodney District and Auckland City (15 minutes to Queen Street
and the port)
- quality, diverse business environment sought after by investors,
owner-occupiers and tenants.
- a tertiary institute - a rapidly expanding UNITEC campus in Henderson is committed to meeting the needs of the local business community
- a one-stop shop - close by are world-class recreational facilities, a retail and entertainment precinct and attractive residential areas - and beyond, the lure of the Waitakere Ranges and west coast beaches
- a go-ahead Council marketing the location to attract a cluster of smart quality businesses.

Why We do Business Here
Major commercial ventures have found just how beneficial being in Waitakere City is ...
"It's wonderful to have watched the growth and the passion in Waitakere City
- there's a vibrancy which is not apparent in greater Auckland.
Our business has been based here since 1990, and it's one of the smarter moves
we've made as it has proven to be so convenient especially with the ease of
access to the motorway outside commuter hours. It's a lot easier for us to get
to Queen Street than someone in St Heliers or Howick. |
Graeme
Douglas is Managing Director of Douglas Pharmaceuticals, the largest
company of its kind in New Zealand. A resident for 41 years, Mr Douglas
lives five minutes from the Henderson site where he employs 200 people,
over half of whom also live locally. |
| I enjoy the pleasantness of the surroundings
and the Council's commitment to planting projects. There's a tertiary
training institute expanding nearby and also a remarkable amount of
existing and planned leisure facilities virtually in the one area. All of
these assets add great value to your business because they attract the
employees of calibre, who see the advantages of both living and working
here." |
"Our purpose-built office and film studios in Henderson
opened in 1999. Waitakere City has a relaxed feel about it, and where we
are situated is spacious with an open horizon. Creating fantasy is part of
our business and we constantly need a range of building and other supplies
- these are all available close by.

Barnett is the Managing Director of South Pacific Pictures Ltd, a company
that is the most prolific producer of film and television drama in New
Zealand. At its Henderson site 100 core staff are employed. |
It also saves time and money having a range of film locations on our doorstep -
within 25 kilometres we've got access to urban and suburban scenes as well as
fields, farms, beaches, and the Waitakere Ranges. Our staff café looks out over
bush, mangroves and water. Everybody loves coming out here.
We have to convince some people who are stuck in town that it's not that
far. They soon realise that the trip from TVNZ in Hobson Street to
Henderson is much faster than getting to Parnell from Central Auckland.
The number of access points to the motor-way is also a plus. We're very
happy here." |
"We wanted to move to a location where we could remain long-term and continue
to grow. This is a big site with potential for us to add on. We also clearly
identified that we wanted the high tech greenfields look.
We trade very much as a company on the country's relatively clean, green image
- Waitakere City as an 'eco-city' has all those connotations.
From our windows we can see grass, the river nearby, wetlands, and a lot of bird life. We're in a perfect position now to invite
our northern hemisphere customers to visit. The staff really appreciate the environment too. We've had very little problem recruiting or losing people as a result of the move.
The wider area has everything you need, but a sense of its rural past has been preserved ... you feel part of the
New Zealand bush scene or wine industry!" |
