Waitakere City offers a wide range of business locations for your business, from established large business areas to newly developing land, and town centres. There are two major business zones under the Waitakere District Plan:

  • Community and Community (Periphery) Environment : for retail and commercial activities in town centres and shopping areas
  • Working Environment : for manufacturing, wholesaling and industrial activities.

Waitakere has 600 hectares of these areas located next to motorways, rail lines, and often in close proximity to its major town centres.

Information on zoning and planning

Some business areas are also termed "Special Areas", where activities can be located in a zoning where they wouldn't usually be permitted. Such areas include the Westpark marina, Pak 'n Save and Mitre 10 in Lincoln Road, and Pinepac in Whenuapai.

New Development and Business Opportunities

Waitakere is undergoing rapid change with the installation of new infrastructure that will radically alter its accessibility to the rest of the Auckland region. Some of these projects are:

  • State Highway 20 motorway leading from Auckland International Airport to New Lynn/Avondale
  • State Highway 18 motorway connecting Westgate to Albany in North Shore City
  • State Highway 16 motorway widening and upgrading of interchanges
  • Western rail line electrification and double tracking

These changes will stimulate redevelopment of existing business areas, and the Council is also planning for new business areas to be opened up alongside the new infrastructure.
