They each cover a separate area of the Waitakere region and perform a number of
functions. These include running arts activities and distributing small grants.
Both arts councils receive an annual funding allocation from Creative New Zealand to distribute to community
groups as grants. These grants are in the vicinity of $500 and can be applied for by contacting the appropriate arts council and filling out an application form.
The current focus of the WCCAC is primarily on running art classes in painting and other art forms, while the TCAC runs a constant exhibition programme from the Upstairs Gallery in Lopdell House.
For a small fee anyone can become a member of an arts
council. Benefits include receiving a regular newsletter,
member's discounts, and the opportunity to exhibit in the annual show.
