Plant for pollination
One of the biggest issues that our native plants face at the
moment is a lack of pollination opportunities. In other
words, our native plants are not successfully pollinating,
either because they do not have the pollinators any more, or
plant numbers have been so reduced there are not enough
plants to ensure successful pollination.
This creates a downward spiral of shrinking genetic
diversity in our native plants, reduced native plant
populations, a less healthy
green network,
and less food for our animals and insects.
Help improve the Green Network and create Landscapes for
Life. Check out this Pollination Wheel below for tips on how
to create a garden in your backyard that can ensure
successful pollination and food for nature.

Landcare Research is undertaking a number of projects linked
to better understanding of pollination and pollinators in
New Zealand. The Community Pollination Project uses research
to investigate the associations between pollinators and
plants, leading to a better ecological understanding of
pollination that can be used in the management of crop,
pasture and native plants and their pollinators.
