I
am found around the sides of lakes or in streams or
estuaries. I live in a large group and rove around looking
for insects that have fallen into the stream. I am a shiny
silver colour with purple along my sides and I have
see-through fins. I can grow to be as long as the palm of
your hand and I live until I am two years old.
After I lay my eggs, I die and my young swim out to
sea. They stay out at sea until they are ready to lay their
eggs, usually the next summer. They then come back to the
river, lay their eggs and die like all their ancestors have
done before them.
