Business Recycling - Creating Resources Not Waste
Are you tired of paying high disposal costs for your
waste? When was the last time you took a look inside
your company’s dumpster or skip? Firstly, it pays to have a
rethink about what materials you are wasting and how this
waste can be reduced (rethink and reduce in the waste
hierarchy).
Secondly, look at ways you could reuse some of those
wastes, and if your own business can’t reuse the waste then
what about other businesses, organisations or schools? You
can help them, and save on disposal costs. If the wastes
cannot be reused then sending them to a recycler is another
way to get them out of your waste skip. Check out the
programmes below for ideas:
RENEW Resource Exchange
RENEW is a region wide waste exchange service that links
organisations that have quality reusable goods they no
longer need, to those who can use it. Some of these local
resources include pallets, untreated sawdust, plastic bags
and 44 gallon drums.
If you are interested in accessing or supplying these resources through the RENEW Resource Exchange
go to the RENEW website on
www.renewwasteexchange.org.nz or contact the
Auckland Regional Council.
RONZ Auckland Recycling Directory
Not sure of the best way to dispose of a certain
resource that is no longer reusable? There is now an
on-line database of recycling companies in the Auckland
region available on the Recycling Operators of New Zealand
website www.ronz.org.nz.

Christmas Gift Making
Another option for your unwanted resources is Waitakere
City Council’s Christmas Gift Making event for the city’s
children. Every year the Council co-ordinates a day for
children to come and make presents for their family using
recycled materials. Many of the materials are donated by
local businesses. All types of resources are required -
material, plastic containers, in fact anything that can be
creatively turned into a gift. So before you throw out
all those boxes of “unwanted resources”
contact
us with resources you have for Christmas Gift
Making.
