Strategy
The Strategy unit operates primarily in support of the
Council's governance role, by providing policy advice,
planning and monitoring processes and advice, as well as
supporting Councillors in their advocacy roles. The unit
also plays a major role in coordinating the development of
the city through Strategic Projects such as city building,
natural resources, transport, cross sector developments
(e.g. Hobsonville), and urban development.
Business & financial services
The Business & Finance Services team provides support &
administrative services, professional research and
communication advice, plan & budget preparation/systems for
the efficient management of the Strategy unit.

Social & cultural strategy
The Social & Cultural Strategy group initiates
strategies, policies and partnerships that facilitate the
development of social and cultural programmes in the City.
The Group leads a range of community safety programmes
through "SAFE Waitakere" and supports the work programmes of
Te Taumata Runanga, the Waitakere Pacific Board and the
Waitakere Ethnic Board. T he Group also administers the
Wellbeing Collaboration Project.
Long term,
urban & environmental strategy
The Long Term, Urban &
Environmental Strategy group is responsible for providing
strategic policy advice and developing critical partnerships
to further the Council’s long-term urban and environmental
planning. The teams in the group provide planning, design
and strategic advice input in the areas of:

Transport strategy
The Transport Strategy team is responsible for strategic
transport advice and policies. This includes travel demand
management, walking and cycling, passenger transport, roads
and state highways. The team has a key role in advancing the
City's interests in regional and national transport
developments, and linking transport with sustainable land
use. The team works with the Transport Assets team in
relation to programmes and projects to help achieve the
Council's strategic goals.

Economic Development Strategy, Waitakere Enterprise
co-ordination & liaison, regional economic relationships,
national monitoring, policy development for Economic
programmes. Leading & coordinating Economic Development
projects.
