Solid
Waste
The core function of the Solid Waste operation of Waitakere City Council, is to provide to residents, an efficient, cost effective refuse collection that minimises the
waste sent to landfill.
Introduction
The council's strategic objective of waste reduction, as outlined in the
Council's Waste Management Plan (2003), has as its focus the five "R"s:
- Reuse
- Recycle
- Reduce
- Recover
- Residual
The Solid Waste Business Unit provides a kerbside recycling collection (green bin) service alongside the weekly rubbish collection and recovers useable resources through an effective resource recovery programme at its Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station.
