Introduction

The council's strategic objective of waste reduction, as outlined in the Council's Waste Management Plan (2003), has as its focus the five "R"s:

  • Reuse
  • Recycle
  • Reduce
  • Recover
  • Residual

The Solid Waste Business Unit provides a kerbside recycling collection (green bin) service alongside the weekly rubbish collection and recovers useable resources through an effective resource recovery programme at its Refuse and Recycling Transfer Station.
