Biodiversity Strategy
Although this document has been developed by the Council and contains
actions for the Council, to achieve good biodiversity outcomes the help of the
community is also needed. We will have to all work together if we are to
successfully maintain and protect the native biodiversity of the City.

Biodiversity Report 2007
This report provides a status quo assessment of Waitakere's biodiversity and
highlights the current biodiversity management programmes. The report has been
prepared as part of the International Council for Local Environmental
Initiatives project for biodiversity known as the Local Action for Biodiversity
(LAB) project www.iclei.org/lab.
Waitakere is one of 20 cities worldwide to join this pilot project. Other city
councils participating in the project are:

lost habitat in your backyard which will help both the ecosystem and your
garden.
Lizards alive in your
garden (Size 931K)
Another publication developed as part of the Council's overall environmental
strategy is Lizards alive in your garden. This leaflet shows how to encourage
lizards by providing better habitat and food sources; as well as dealing with
threats, such as cats, rats, insecticides, etc.
