Key Performance Indicators Surveys 2004
What is the KPI (Key Performance Indicators) Surveys?
Waitakere City Council believes that the best way we can
find out if we are doing a good job is to ask residents what
they think. Accordingly, every year we conduct surveys to do
precisely that: find out what residents think of the
services the council provides.
What are the KPI surveys used for?
The KPI surveys are used to identify how well we are performing in key areas . The results are reported in the Waitakere City Council Annual Report and used to help identify where need to make improvements in the future and also how we need to keep up to the mark in areas where we perform well. The information is also useful information for residents to judge how well their council is serving them.

How are the KPI Surveys conducted?
The KPI mail-back survey is conducted using a random
sample of people from the Electoral Roll. The KPI phone
surveys are telephone interviews each of a random sample of
around 300 Waitakere City residents aged 18 years and over.

What questions do the KPI Surveys ask?
The questions in the KPI mail back survey are related to the various activities of the following services that the Council carries out:
The questions in the phone surveys are related to what residents of Waitakere City feel about the City, what they do in the City and the adequacy of Council's services. In particular, the questions surround issues such as:
- Community participation
- Leisure opportunities
- Educational opportunities
- Information needs
- Personal Safety
- Civic participation
- Attitudes to Council's expenditure
- Council's ability to inform residents of its policies, decisions and
services
- Safety of town centres
- Community buildings
- Transport to and from work
- Pedestrian crossings
- Public Transport
- Ease of getting about
- Housing
- The Green Network
