Eco city  - Agenda 21

The Council has a Vision; our goal is to continue to move Waitakere towards a sustainable economic, environmental and social future. This has been the direction of the City for the past decade and we are continuing along that road in the future. For further information see Agenda 21.

Maori issues

An active programme is pursued to embrace the status of Maori (tangata whenua) as Treaty partners, and to ensure Maori staff needs and aspirations are met within the organisation.

Partnership

Underpinning Council's commitment to creating a sustainable, dynamic and just workplace for staff and management is Workplace Waitakere - a Partnership Statement. This statement articulates the vision, goals, values, principles and behaviours for a united approach to leadership and decision-making designed to ensure that workers are full participants in the implementation and evaluation of, activities related to Agenda 21.

Family friendly

The Council is "family friendly". It believes that support of staff with family responsibilities is an excellent management practice leading to productive staff who feel valued and are able to balance work, family responsibilities and outside interests.

Ongoing learning and career development

The Council is committed to the ongoing learning and development of both its staff and the organisation as a whole. Opportunities to develop specific knowledge and skills are provided through both internal and external learning events and conferences.

Wellbeing

Staff wellbeing is valued by Council. All staff may use the Employment Assistance Programme for personal and confidential support for work or family issues.

Staff values 

Council staff are expected to value the community they participate in and serve. There are regular community events which staff can participate in on a voluntary basis such as Christmas gift making sessions for children, stream clean ups and tree planting.
