Whenuapai Air Base
Background
The RNZAF is reducing the size of its operations with at Whenuapai with a view to vacating
the airbase . This will have implications for the economies of the City and the
region.
While the timing and process are not yet clear it is important that the
Council is in a position to react positively when the Ministry of Defence sets
out its detailed proposals.

Accordingly the Council has considered the implications of the departure of the Air Force and
has actively researched and discussed the case for developing a second commercial airport for the Auckland region, at Whenuapai.
