Oratia Local Area Plan
Oratia is the location for the first Local Area Plan
(LAP) within the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area. The
Local Area Plan has now been drafted taking into
consideration all the community feedback received
and adopted for the purposes of consultation by the
Policy and Strategy Committee on 6 August 2009.
Residents and stakeholders within the area are being
asked to make a submission on the proposed plan.
Draft Oratia Local Area Plan for Consultation
We want to hear your views on what Oratia should
look and feel like in the future. We need to know
what you value and enjoy about this place, what you
may not like and want to see change, what you want
to stay the same and how you imagine Oratia will
look in 50 years time.

The proposed Oratia Local Area Plan represents the
outcome of a series of conversations, meetings and
workshops with members of the Oratia community and
research into the ideas and visions for the future.
The workshops and meetings held between November
2008 and May 2009 provided a chance for Council to
listen to residents about the kind of future they
wanted for Oratia. The focus has been on gathering
ideas about the way the community looks and feels
now and in the future.
There are four key components to the Oratia Local
Area Plan:
- the boundary
- the identification of features important to and
valued by the community
- the descriptions of existing and future character
and amenity
- objectives and actions to achieve the desired
future character and amenity.
