Education Kit Resources

Teacher education kits have been developed in a collaborative project between Waitakere City Council and teachers in Waitakere City secondary schools.  The resources are for use by secondary school teachers and students and primary school teachers.  The aim if for students to learn using local information - historical, environmental, economic and social about Waitakere City and develop an understanding of the key issues and trends it faces.

Resources have been gathered from many sources including Waitakere City Libraries local history collection and the JT Diamond Photographic Collection, Council records, the State of the City report - Waitakere City, Auckland Regional Council, census data, Western Leader and the New Zealand Herald news articles and community groups.

The resources are to be used as links to the curriculum and are divided into four sections:

Urban Studies Special Places Local Area Studies Natural Environment

Special Places

This resource kit touches on some special places. With the six key examples there is a range of resources and references included with examples of educational activities that demonstrated how "Special Places" can fit into the year 9 - 10 social studies curriculum.

Note: For the following you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to view and print these documents.  For help opening PDF files or tips on copying information see Helpful Tips.
