This site is close to a relatively major road in a residential area.
The riparian margin had some long grass, plants such as flax and a good
area of trees upstream of the sample site. The bed of the stream was
stony, with quite a lot of sediment deposited between the rocks.
There
had recently been some clearing of the banks, which seems to have
contributed to sedimentation of the stream at the sample site. There was
also a lot of urban debris in the stream including a supermarket trolley
downstream of the site the day that we sampled. On rainy days,
silt-laden road runoff can be seen entering the water either side of the
stream.
At this site, we found a reasonable number of different kinds of
animals. You will get an idea of the water quality of this stream when
checking the sensitivity indicator for each animal listed here.
The most
sensitive groups are at the top of the list.
