Eco Initiatives
Under the objectives of being an Eco City the Council is encouraging the creation of a city for the future, using the knowledge and technology available in the 21st century. This is done by balancing the needs of people, of business and of the environment to deliver a superior quality of life that is sustainable far into the future.
Introduction
The way we create our buildings is of paramount importance to the success of this quest. Overall design; how we acquire, use and conserve energy; how we use water; using renewable materials and innovative use of materials new and old - all have their part to contribute.
Accordingly anyone interested in building or renovating is encouraged to take on board the eco principles described in the various eco projects undertaken by the Council.
EnergyWise solar grants available
Are you interested in exploring the possibility of installing a solar hot water heating system at your house? Does the up front costs seem a too big a financial hurdle?
With the support of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) a number of Solar Industries Association suppliers are now able to offer special financing. EECA are providing limited grants to help households install solar hot water heating systems again until the end of June 2004.
The grant is approximately equivalent to one-year interest free loan and is available to eligible people who take out a loan to purchase a solar hot water heating system from an accredited Solar Industries Association supplier.
See
EnergyWise Solar Grant programme
for more information on accessing the grant and
participating companies.
