Cleaner Production Partnership Programme
During 1995 – 96 Waitakere City Council ran a Cleaner Production Partnership Programme
(CP3) to involve local businesses in cleaner production. CP3 sought to assist companies become more competitive by helping them to prevent pollution and to become more efficient.
CP3 sought to help companies to:
- Reduce costs and improve manufacturing efficiency
- Improve product quality
- Improve worker safety
- Limit expenditures on costly pollution control and expenditure
- Create a healthier environment

Where are they now?
Carter Holt Harvey Tissue and Enterprise Waitakere companies went on to implement ISO 14000 environmental management systems.
Phoenix Organics went on to adopt ‘The Natural Step’ and continues to work on its sustainability.
Waitakere Hospital is currently designing a new building and has incorporated a number of sustainable building initiatives and recently competed an energy audit of the new design to identify opportunities to avoid future operating costs.
