EnviroSmartTM is a new initiative for businesses promoted
by Councils throughout New Zealand.
The EnviroSmartTM programme was launched by the Prime Minister
on 28 February 2006 and focuses on improving the
environmental performance of businesses nationwide.
Twenty-three Councils in nine regions and the Ministry for
the Environment are sponsoring EnviroSmart, which builds on
the success of two pilot programmes in Auckland where over
60 businesses participated.
The EnviroSmart programme focuses on improving business
environmental performance by reducing solid waste, using
energy, water and raw materials efficiently and purchasing
environmentally sound products and services, as well as
achieving an environmental certification.
The national programme allows for the recruitment of over
500 businesses of varying types and sizes. Waitakere City
Council is sponsoring 20 businesses through the programme
over the next 3 years.
